Establish your maximum budget- $250,000, $500,000 or $1m plus. There is something available in Sarasota for all price ranges. For the lower prices you will probably be looking inland from the water, there is quite a few new(er) properties available close to I-75. There is plenty of lovely, centrally located moderately priced older neighborhoods to choose from, "Old Florida living."
However, if you have a more generous budget available say $500,000 to $15m, you have the option of buying waterfront property, a condo on the beach or a house on the Bay or the Gulf. Now please bear in mind that Beach/Bay/Gulf waterfront property is at a premium, will remain at a premium and therefore, although it may appear to be expensive today the investment gain in years to come should certainly be very beneficial.
